FOR THE PROOF OF CONCEPT:

On Halloween night,

an isolated video editor/streamer

is hired to cut together

a horror movie made by a masked killer,

only to discover that the cinematic "scenes" are real.

WRITER/DIRECTOR MITCHELL SLAN:

I've always wanted to write the perfect Halloween movie. Invent the next horror villain. After working as a video editor for years, "Rough Cut" was born. I decided to mix the two ideas together, presenting the story through the lens of a video editing program.

Our protagonist, Tiffany, faces a modern nightmare. As a skilled video editor and streamer, her isolation becomes her greatest vulnerability on Halloween night. The villain, a uniquely masked killer with a camera lens attached to one of his eyes, documents his kills cinematically, controlling multiple cameras with a technological glove he designed himself. Tiffany unknowingly becomes his editor, forming a chilling director-editor relationship. This style has yet to be seen and gives audiences something fresh in the horror genre.

This Halloween marks the ten-year anniversary of a tragedy Tiffany and her mother faced, adding a personal element to the horror. The terror escalates when Tiffany's mother appears in the footage, blending past and present, fiction and reality.

"Rough Cut" explores the blurred lines between fiction and reality, using the unique perspective of a video editing program to intensify suspense. It delves into the psychological impact of our digital lives, creating a Halloween movie that is both innovative and deeply unsettling.
